Valery Bochkov

V. Bochkov was born in Latvia and grew up in Moscow, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts. After a successful career as an artist of fine watercolors and illustrations, he became the Creative Director for a top international advertising agency, developing award-winning campaigns in Moscow and New York between 1995 and 2000. He emigrated to the USA and created his own Studio for visual and interactive media and communications, including illustrations for the New York Times and the Washington Post, and visual concepts for several television shows for the Discovery Channel. For the project “Greede TV” he was given the ADDY Award. As professional artist he had around a dozen personal exhibitions in Europe and the US and was twice invited to the Edinburgh Art Festival. His first stories as a literary author were published in 2012, after which he received several nominations for Russian shortlists (National bestseller, Big Book, Booker, NOS) and was awarded the Russian Prize in 2014, the most prestigious literary award for writers living outside of Russia and writing in Russian. V. Bochkov speaks Russian, English and German. He lives and works in Washington, USA.
